The brief

What the project needed

Blackflag needed more than a brochure site. The concept required repeatable editorial operations, structured motorcycle records, source review, manual publishing control, and public pages that could grow into a durable media archive.

Build notes

A publishing system behind the public site

The platform supports Finds, Stories, Auction Watch, Weird Bikes, Stuff We Use, and The Flag newsletter through a shared editorial structure. MongoDB is the production source of truth so the application does not depend on local file writes.

The Daily Desk gives the operator a review-first workflow for queueing, editing, approving, publishing, and archiving content. Nothing scraped or imported is automatically published as editorial judgment.

Build notes

Discovery, importing, and moderation

Source harvesters collect review candidates from supported motorcycle marketplaces, while a dedicated manual importer handles sources that block automated collection. Candidate records preserve source links and move through the same approval process.

The build also includes public comments with moderation, newsletter confirmation, anti-spam checks, outbound-link tracking, and admin controls designed for a single operator.

Build notes

Built to be found and maintained

Clean routes, canonical metadata, structured data, RSS, and a generated sitemap support discovery. Automated checks cover editorial workflows and regressions before deployment.

This profile describes the platform and operating system Digitize built. It does not substitute invented audience or revenue figures for real reporting.
